St. Timothy's Lutheran School

Core Subjects: Math, Language Arts, Reading and
Science
Additional Subjects: as Science, Social Studies, Spelling, Handwriting and Religion
are taught daily at the appropriate grade level.
Weekly
instruction in: Physical Education, Music, Art, Computer and
Library for all students in Junior Kindergarten and above.
In
addition to the outstanding curriculum, each class at St.
Timothy’s participates in a number of activities which makes
learning fun.
Chapel
Presentation
All classes are given the opportunity
to lead the weekly Chapel service once during the year. They
perform skits and sing songs related to a specific Bible
lesson.
Book
Buddies
Fifth graders team up with first
graders and read them stories twice a month.
State
Projects
This major project allows the
students to develop their research and presentation skills.
Candy
Store
Fifth graders take turns selling school supplies and candy at
lunch time on Fridays. Proceeds help to finance their
trip to Science Camp.
Stars
& Stripes Raffle
Throughout each month students earn
“raffle tickets” for good behavior and good work. At the
end of the month they place those tickets into a basket and
names are drawn for candy and prizes.
Recycling
Fifth graders are responsible for the
collection of scrap paper and cardboard throughout the school
for recycling.
Umbrella
Duty
Every morning before school fifth
graders put up the umbrellas which provide shade at lunch time
and take them down in the afternoon.
Seder
Dinner
This activity takes place in
Fellowship Hall and allows the students to learn about the
Jewish tradition of the Seder Dinner.
School
Newspaper
Students voluntarily write articles,
do surveys and interviews, draw cartoons, etc. on a
semi-regular basis which they publish and share with the
school.
Graduation
Last but not least, the fifth graders
get their own graduation ceremony.

Learning
is not limited to the classroom as fifth graders venture out
several times during the year, culminating in a week long trip
to Science Camp.
Santa
Clara Water District
This trip teaches the students many
valuable lessons in water conservation and preservation as well
as providing lots information about about the earth above and
below us.
Intel
Museum
What better place to learn the
history of the computer, how a computer works and how a
computer chip is made than the Intel Museum.
Community
Theater Center Play
Each year the students visit one of
the many theaters throughout the community to develop an
appreciation for the performing arts and enjoy a play.
Science
Camp
This grand finale is a week long of
fun and adventure where fifth graders learn a lot about the environment,
eat a lot of good food, learn how to climb a rock wall and
become members of the “banana slug” club. Along with
students from all over the state, they travel to Mission
Springs Outdoor Education center in Scotts Valley which
emphasizes the Christian faith as part of its experience.

A
number of special programs teach fifth graders valuable
information which benefits them throughout their lives.
Kids
Who Care
The students participate in a community service project during
the year. Fifth Graders clean up a section of Los
Alamitos Creek and learn how important it is to keep the
environment clean.
Art
Docents
Parent volunteers come to the
class six times a year to give a presentation and hands on
project. Fifth Graders projects include photography, wire
sculpture, totem designs, asymmetrical compositions, limner
artist portraits, and people in action using torn strips of
construction paper. The students' work is
displayed during the school-wide Art Show. Parents and
guests are also invited to come and admire the work of all of
our students at the Art Show.
D.A.R.E.
Program
When funding is available through the
sheriff’s office, students participate in the Drug Abuse
Resistance Education program where they learn how to say
no to drugs and violence.

Timothy’s also uses parent volunteers to teach science units in
their area of interest or expertise. Classes are also
encouraged to make use of garden boxes on campus to broaden the
student’s science experience.

Vocabulary skills are strengthened. The spelling-meaning
connection helps students understand that words related in
meaning are related in spelling.

Along with the students daily geography lesson, they study
citizenship, government, state history, and national history.
