St. Timothy's Lutheran School

Core Subjects: Math, Language Arts, Reading and

are taught daily at the appropriate grade level.
Weekly
instruction in: Physical Education, Music, Art, Computer and
Library for all students in Junior Kindergarten and above.

addition to the outstanding curriculum, each class at St.
Timothy’s participates in a number of activities which makes
learning fun.
Chapel
Presentation
All classes are given the opportunity
to lead the weekly Chapel service once
during the year. They perform skits and sing
songs related to a specific Bible lesson.

Fourth graders team up with first graders
and read them stories twice a month.
Mission/Native
American/California Explorer
Report
& Project
This major project involves researching
one of the three topics in-depth, writing
a paper, creating a three dimensional model,
and giving an oral report.

are given the opportunity to use different modalities to
portray genres in literature.
Ball
Carts
The
class is responsible for the school “ball
cart”. Shared items are retrieved and sorted
every day.

Learning
is not limited to the classroom as fourth graders venture out
several times during the year for fun and education.

Ranch
Fourth
graders visit this ranch owned by
the the Jose Bernal family. They
learn about ranch life in the 1890s.
Community
Theater Center Play
Each year the students visit one
of the many theaters throughout
the community to develop an appreciation
for the performing arts and enjoy a play.
Almaden
Quicksilver Mines
Students enjoy a museum docent
guided demonstration of life in the
Quicksilver Mines of the 1700s.
Peralta
Adobe
Students visit the oldest Adobe settlement
in San Jose.
San
Juan Bautista Mission
In conjunction with their major
project, students visit this
historical town and mission with
guided or self-directed tours
along the El Camino.

Two
very special programs teach fourth graders valuable lessons
about serving others and art which benefits them throughout
their lives.
Kids Who Care
The
students participate in a community
service project during the year
called Kids Who Care. The children
collect food from the school student body to donate to Second
Harvest Food Bank.
Art

Parent
volunteers come to the class six
times a year to give a
presentation and hands on project.
Fourth Grade projects include
Primitive style painting,
Impressionist/ Pointillist
landscape, the Mask Project,
Cubist portraits, and
Surrealist Dream painting.
The students' work is displayed during the school-wide Art
Show. Parents and guests are also invited to come and
admire the work of all of our students at the Art
Show.

Science is supplemented with hands on experiments. St.
Timothy’s also uses parent volunteers to teach science units in
their area of interest or expertise. Classes are also
encouraged to make use of garden boxes on campus to broaden the
student’s science experience.

Spelling and Vocabulary
Vocabulary skills are strengthened. The spelling-meaning
connection helps students understand that words related in
meaning are related in spelling.
