St. Timothy's Lutheran School
offers a strong curriculum, approved

Core Subjects: Math, Language Arts, Reading and
Science
Additional Subjects: as Science, Social Studies, Spelling, Handwriting and Religion
are taught daily at the appropriate grade level.
Weekly
instruction in: Physical Education, Music, Art, Computer and
Library for all students in Junior Kindergarten and above.
In
addition to the outstanding curriculum, each class at St.
Timothy’s participates in a number of activities which makes
learning fun.
Chapel
Presentation
All classes are given the opportunity
to lead the weekly Chapel service once during the year. They
perform skits and sing songs related to a specific Bible
lesson.


Book
Buddies
Third graders team up with Junior
Kindergarteners and read them stories twice a month. 
Reports
Third graders do two special reports: Endangered
Species and a Biography Book Report. Both allow the students to
develop their research skills and oral presentation skills.
Owl
Pellet Dissection
Students dissect “owl pellets to
identify the skulls of the owls prey.
Student
of the Week
This students brings special things
to share with the class. They introduce their family and pets
to us. They have special privileges and a special poster.
Easter
Breakfast
We celebrate Christ’s rising from death with a
beautiful breakfast.
Egg
Drop
Students take care of their egg for a week.
Then, everyone devises a special container for their egg to see
if it can survive being dropped from the roof of the school.
Leprechaun
Traps
Students use their creativity to
create a trap which will catch a Leprechaun based on legendary
information.
Pool
Party
Fun! Fun! Fun! at year’s end.

Learning is not limited to the classroom as third graders
venture out several times during the year for fun and
education.
Community
Theater Center Play
Each year the students visit one of the many theater centers
throughout the community where they enjoy a play. This helps
them to develop an appreciation for the performing arts.
Christmas
in the Park
During Christmas the students participate in a scavenger hunt
at Christmas in the Park. This trip helps familiarize
students with different groups in their community.
Almaden
Library
Students take a tour of the recently remodeled library.
They learn how to locate and check out books (especially
biography books for their report). They also learn about
the kid-friendly activities provided specifically for them.
San
Francisco Zoo
In the spring, students take a guided tour to further their
knowledge about external adaptations that animals have to allow
them to survive.
 
The
Tech Museum
Students enjoy viewing and participating in the diverse
exhibits at the museum; especially "Green by Design"
and "View from Space"

A
number of special programs teach third graders valuable lessons
about life and art which benefits them throughout their lives.

Bibles
In September, as a gift from the school, each
student is presented with their own Bible. These Bibles
are used for class and study throughout this year and in Fourth
and Fifth Grades.
 
Kids
Who Care
The students participate in
a community service project during the year. Third Graders gave toys and food, had a blanket drive and
collected Pennies for Pets for the Humane Society.
Art
Docents
Parent volunteers come to the class six times a year
to give a presentation and hands on project. Third Graders
projects include People and Their Feelings/ Moody Clowns,
Depth/ Perspective Compositions, Foil Sculptures of People in
Action, Drawing to Music, Imaginary Animal paintings and
Japanese Egg Painting. he students'
work is displayed during the school-wide Art Show.
Parents and guests are also invited to come and admire the work
of all of our students at the Art Show.

the basis of our faith and beliefs.

Science is supplemented with hands on experiments. St.
Timothy’s also uses parent volunteers to teach science units in
their area of interest or expertise. Classes are also
encouraged to make use of garden boxes on campus to broaden the
student’s science experience.

Spelling and Vocabulary
Vocabulary skills are strengthened. The spelling-meaning
connection helps students understand that words related in
meaning are related in spelling.
Social Studies

Daily Geography
Students use a workbook for a quick 10-15 minute daily lesson
on geography.
Houghton Mifflin
From Sea to Shining Sea
Along with the students daily geography lesson, they study
citizenship, government, state history, and national history.
Students also supplement their social studies lessons with the
“Weekly Reader” magazine from Scholastic, Inc.
