St. Timothy's Lutheran School offers a strong curriculum, approved by the State of California,  and SO MUCH MORE! 

Core Subjects:  Math, Language Arts, Reading and Science

Additional Subjects:  as Science, Social Studies, Spelling, Handwriting and Religion are taught daily at the appropriate grade level. 

Weekly instruction in:  Physical Education, Music, Art, Computer and Library for all students in Kindergarten and above.  Junior Kindergarten has weekly instruction in  Physical Education, Music, Art, and Library.

 

In addition to the outstanding curriculum, each class at St. Timothy’s participates in a number of activities that make learning fun.

Chapel Presentation 
All classes are given the opportunity to lead the weekly Chapel service once during the year. They perform skits and sing songs related to a specific Bible lesson.

       

Book Buddies 
Twice a month fourth and first graders get together to share reading activities.

Science Fair Projects 
The class creates a project for the Science Fair related to a science curriculum topic.

Fall Bulb Garden
In the Fall, children bring in bulbs to planted for a Spring flower garden.

Parent Resource Visits
Parents are invited to share hobbies, jobs and interests as part of various study areas. 

Weekly Book Envelopes
Each week the students are responsible fore completing a log of home reading, which may include books checked out from the classroom.

Harvest, Christmas, Valentine’s and Easter

Special Days 
Animal Friends' Sleepover, Mother's and Father's Day Party, Asian New Year, Pet Visit Days

 

Learning is not limited to the classroom as first graders venture out several times during the year for trips that reinforce curriculum units.

 

California Theatre Center 
The children get to practice their theater manners while viewing a live production of a well known story. It is presented by young adult actors in a small theater setting. A highlight is meeting with the actors after the performance.

Uesugi Farm Pumpkin Park 
In the fall, the children visit a pumpkin park.  In addition to walking through the pumpkin patch, they learn fun pumpkin facts and enjoy various attractions such as a ride on the Pumpkinville Railroad. 

Pizza My Heart 
The children have a wonderful time as they visit this restaurant.  Highlights of the tour include seeing firsthand how to make a pizza.  They learn many interesting things.  Each student also gets to make and eat a creative individual pizza -- yum, yum! 

Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose 
First Graders have an exciting, hands-on learning experience as they touch, experiment, and explore how things work in many exhibits.

Two very special programs teach first graders valuable lessons about life and art which benefits them throughout their lives.

Kids Who Care
The students participate in a community service project during the year called Kids Who Care. First Graders make and send greetings to a nursing home and/or shut-ins.

Art Docents 
Parent volunteers come to the class six times a year to give a presentation and hands on project. Firsts graders projects include Flower Color Wheel, Yarn Drawings, Creative Rubbings, Abstract Texture Collage, Monochromatic Designs and Expressive Line Drawings.  The students' work is displayed during the school-wide Art Show.  Parents and guests are also invited to come and admire the work of all of our students at the Art Show.

Science is supplemented with hands on experiments. St. Timothy’s also uses parent volunteers to teach science units in their area of interest or expertise.

Classes are also encouraged to make use of garden boxes

on campus to broaden the students' science experience.

Phonics in Action brings words to life to help students become better readers and writers. All important spelling principles and patterns are introduced.

Daily Geography
Along with the students daily geography lesson, they study citizenship, government, state history, and national history. Students also supplement their social studies lessons with the “Weekly Reader” magazine from Scholastic, Inc.
